AL-HALAL Co-operative & Credit Society ("AL-HALAL", "we", "us") is a member-owned co-operative and credit society registered and operating from No 29, Ifesowapo Central Mosque, Moberi Idi-Ishin, Liberty Academy, Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect the personal data of our members and website visitors.

2. Personal Data We Collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Identity details: full name, phone number, email address, physical address
  • Membership records: card number, date joined, membership status
  • Financial data: wallet balances, transaction history, deposit/withdrawal records, loan and purchase records
  • Bank account details, where provided for loan disbursement or withdrawals
  • Device information: push notification tokens and device fingerprints, used to secure your account
  • Membership interest submissions from prospective members on this website (name, phone, email, message)

We do not currently collect BVN or NIN. Should future regulatory requirements (for example, CBN KYC obligations) require this, we will update this policy in advance of collecting it and explain the additional purpose and safeguards.

3. Why We Collect It

  • To operate your cooperative membership and wallet accurately
  • To process deposits, withdrawals, loans, and purchases you request
  • To verify your identity and prevent fraud on your account
  • To send you transaction confirmations, security alerts, and cooperative notices
  • To meet our regulatory and cooperative-society record-keeping obligations
  • To follow up on membership interest submitted through this website

4. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell personal data. We share the minimum necessary data with trusted service providers strictly to deliver our services:

  • Payment processors, to disburse loan and withdrawal transfers to your bank account
  • Bill payment aggregators, to fulfil airtime, data, TV, and electricity purchases
  • SMS/WhatsApp messaging providers, to deliver OTPs and account notifications
  • Secure cloud storage, for deposit receipt images and encrypted database backups

Each provider is contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the stated purpose.

5. How Long We Keep It

  • Transaction and financial records: retained for 7 years, in line with standard financial record-keeping practice
  • Membership records: retained for up to 2 years after membership ends, then securely deleted or anonymised
  • Website membership-interest submissions: retained until converted to membership or dismissed, then deleted within a reasonable period

6. Your Rights

Under the NDPA 2023, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal retention obligations
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent for optional communications at any time

7. Data Security

We apply industry-standard safeguards to protect your data, including encryption of sensitive fields, access controls limiting officer access to what their role requires, and audit logging of administrative actions.

8. Data Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we commit to notifying the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, and to notifying affected members without undue delay.

9. Cookies & Analytics

This website does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics at this time. If that changes, a cookie consent banner will be added before any such technology is deployed.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations evolve. Material changes will be announced on this page and, where appropriate, communicated directly to members.
